American Wake

from An American Wake

I stood on the cliffs and looked out to sea
Atlantic sun rising in front of me
You asked "Will I miss you?"
My look just said it all

There's something amiss when you're not around
Music is gone, it's life without sound
The night that you left
Your American wake....

And you will, come back soon.

The Half Door is open, with tourists around
The great smell of mussels in this fisherman's town
But Dingle feels empty
As I move through the crowd.

I carry your picture wherever I go
Every face is a memory on these streets on these roads
Are you thinking of me?
As I daydream of you...

And you will, come back soon.

So here's what I know as I long for you
I don't give a damn of the talk in this town
I'll hold unto hope as that's all that I have.
I'll be right here when you return to me
I'll be right here when you look for me
Make it soon, ah make it soon...

And you will, come back soon.
